I don't talk about it much, but for years I've considered myself to be God's prism - His light and love for all of Creation coming into and through me, radiating out into paintings and writing that will touch the lives of others.
It sounds beautiful, but I'm beginning to realize how mechanical that is. I've taken my Self out of the equation. I've separated myself, just like a prism, which is at a distance and only its effect upon something else is seen. I'm simply a conduit. I've always said that I want my work "to affect others." To "affect" is to act upon, not to share in the experience of something. Where does that leave love, friendship, relationships, and giving? I'm changing my imagery. I will become a kaleidoscope.
Kaleidoscope An optical instrument in which bits of glass, held loosely at the end of a rotating tube, are shown in continually changing symmetrical forms by reflection in two or more mirrors set at angles to each other.
God's kaleidoscope - His light and love reflecting back and forth between me, you, and everything else in Creation so that we all become an inextricable part of a beautiful whole. I'm afraid I'm not there yet. As an introvert, I find safety and comfort in maintaining my distance from people. But I also feel the need to connect and to truly embody my values: union with God, freedom, creativity, and sharing with others. Not sharing to others. Sharing with others. And to do that I need to be with others. It will take some practice, going beyond my comfort zone, and giving more of myself, but I'll get there.
On our mountaintop here in Georgia, it's too easy to retreat back to the safety of distance, so we're selling our home and moving on. Not exactly sure when it will happen or where we're going, but I'll be sharing the journey with you as we go along.
