Twilight Toad (lost constellation Bufo) - 25" x 25"

There used to be many more constellations in the sky than there are now.  In 1922 the International Astronomical Union formally recognized 88 constellations, effectively wiping all others from the sky.  This left many well-deserving constellations out in the cold.  Constellation Bufo is one of those.  It was created by naturalist John Hill in 1754 in his book Urania: or, A Compleat View of the Heavens.   It's thought that he created constellations of unpopular animals (toad. eel, pangolin, etc.) to "poke the eye" of the Royal Academy in London which refused to take his work seriously since he didn't have academic credentials to his name.

Twilight Toad (lost constellation Bufo) is an original acrylic painting on a 24" x 24" canvas in a 25" x 25" contemporary maple "float" frame.  Ready to hang.
